It’s Monday. This time Friday I’ll be in Chicago enjoying the fruits of my gaming labor with 30 other like-minded individuals from all over. From Florida, Kentucky, Chicago, Michigan, New York, Ohio and everywhere else, we’re gathering to have a Nerdfest like no other.

I’m psyched, I’ve worked almost EVERY day for the last year and a half without taking more than a single 3 day vacation. I could really use this one.

3:00 Time for Starburst

At my office there’s a guy who works out in the warehouse. He’s a really cool dude, named Tommy. Well everyday at 3:00 he takes a break, and goes through the entire office building offering everyone a starburst.

Definately a good pick-me-up at 3:00, where you’ve been away from lunch for a while and you’re waiting for 5:00.

Productivity at its best.

Last Night I took my laptop to a family dinner. [It was at a Chinese restaurant and I don't eat Chinese food]

Don’t worry, I kept it under wraps until after dinner was served. But then I was showing some of my cousins some videos I had on here. They loved it.

Then we got crazy. We did a quick video blog [just screwing around], we took several hilarious pictures with photobooth. Then we editted our video. Then we went to Keynote and I got to try it out for the first time. In 10 minutes I had the best presentation that I had ever done. And it was all random crap. We got to put some pictures on it, some songs, and the video we just made. It’s so easy and simple.

Mac’s are awesome. I did more with stock software in 20 minutes than I did in 10 years with a PC. My case has been answered.

Is amazing.

Yesterday, I synced up my phone to my computer. Now all my numbers are on both. I feel awesome.
I love technology.

My Uncle Don

A member of my family has joined the Blogging world. However, the reason for his blog is much different from most of the others that I’ve ever read. You see, my Uncle Don has been diagnosed with ALS commonly referred to as Lou Gherig’s Disease. I’m not a doctor or anything but from what I know, it basically is a disease that deteriorates your muscles while leaving your mind alone. Don has always been a close member of the family, he even lived in my bedroom for 6 months when the family was relocating back to Memphis. That was 10 years ago. It’s amazing how time flies. He is a big part of why I’m into Technology like I am. He’s also been a tech guy in the family and always been talking about the newest technologies. It’s rubbed off on his two kids. Chris and Nicole. They are two of the coolest kids I’ve ever known. Chris is an accomplished Boy scout and is great with computers. He enjoys video games just as much as I do. Nicole is a star in the making Soccer player [we call her "The Foot"] and also an artist. She paints, draws and wants to be a graphic designer when she gets older. Just in the last few months, she got her very first video camera of her own and has been into making movies with Chris. They’ve done an amazing job of growing up quickly since they’ve been faced with this stuff and I look up to them for it. Back to Don’s blog. I enjoyed reading it because it gave me insight on the way life changes with adversity. He’s kept an amazing outlook on life and has enjoyed living. Check out a website that a former coworker built for him. It’s got some pictures, some more information, and the blog.

The Preview Review – The Pursuit of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness

Who would have thought that the lead for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air would be able to have such a productive movie career. Of course… the same could be said about Tom Hanks and Busom Buddies. Ok, Ok, back to the preview.

Will Smith stars in a movie based on a true story, of a single father who’s trying to raise his son. He works hard, but his job doesn’t pay very well. He meets a guy on Wall Street who is a stock broker, and he realizes that if he was one, then he would have money as well.

He scores an unpaid internship with a stock company and is trying to be a licensed broker. All of this happens, while he’s getting kicked out of his apartment and is homeless with his son. It’s got some emotional parts to it and I’m sure will make you sad in the theaters.

The overall tone of the movie is determination and dedication. My favorite quote from the movie is “If you want something. Go get it. Period” which is said from father to son. Along with “Don’t anyone ever tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me. Alright?” As much as this movie is about overcoming the odds, it’s also a story about a father and a son. His son is his motivation. His fuel for success. That’s what keeps him ticking and pushing forward.

Will Smith sports a new look for the movie, appearing older and more like an average kinda guy than you’re used to seeing him.

Release Date: December 15th

My recommendation: 4 out 5

Job Hunting

The Job Market is tough these days. First off, you need to know someone to get an interview somewhere. I live in Memphis, so the amount of corporations around here are actually kinda slim since we’re mainly a blue-collar city that’s centered around distribution.

All of those websites that offer Jobs are worthless as well. After you sign up and create a profile that’s entirely too long, you search and you get all of these crappy results from companies offering you to work from home and make a trillion different entries so it’s impossible to filter through all of that crap just to find the one actual good offer.

So let’s say you have some certain companies in mind. Like… I live in Memphis, let me apply to FedEx. I go to their website and find their careers section. What? I have to register to search their  potential positions. Then I find one that I think I’d be good at and interests me but everyone wants 2-3 years minimum experience.

::sigh::

I just graduated, how am I supposed to get all of this experience since the only way to get something in my degree requires experience and the only way to get experience is to know someone.

My ultimate goal: work for a company like Google, Apple, Microsoft, or one of the new media companies. Advertising is a very interesting area and knowing how to market to customers is always needed. The biggest craze right now is online advertising, but not by using pop-up windows or anything stupid like that. Using social networks like Myspace, facebook, and secondlife. Using blogs to discuss products/services with people.

This stuff interests me and I want to be a part of it. I’m going to be a part of it.

WTC Mystery Hero Emerges

A hero reveals himself

Isn’t that amazing? Someone who was portrayed in World Trade Center realized he was a part of a movie when he saw the preview from his couch.

He could have grabbed some attention 4 years ago when it all happened. Instead, he showed up and volunteered 2 and a half weeks of his time helping out at Ground Zero, and simply walked away.

He could have just stayed home, but instead he chose to do something great and he saved lives.

Amazing.

The Preview Review – Children of Men

Children of Men

Children of Men is the story about life in the near future where due to some unknown reason, women stopped giving birth. Hope seems lost since the world can’t repopulate.

Clive Owen plays a guy who, like the rest of the world, has just stopped caring. From what I could gather from the preview, riots start breaking out when the youngest human on the planet died.

Clive gets kidnapped by [what I think] is an ex-girlfriend of his. They need his help to get a young girl to a boat so she can go to the Human Project. He doesn’t care at first, but when he finds out she’s pregnant, he regains hope. She’s the miracle that the world needs, however the world is so hostile these days that she needs to get to safety before they can tell anyone.

I think this movie looks amazing and  the story is unique and gripping. Clive Owen has always been one of my favorite actor’s from King Arthur to Inside Man to Sin City, he’s always been solid in his performance. Definately something that is going to raise some eyebrows and be a hit.

Release Date: December 25th

My recommendation – 4.5 out of 5.0

If your life was a story, how would it end?

Better yet, would there be any chapters you regret living, or regret not living?

I hope not.
